2010 MDRT Million Meal Challenge

During the 2010 MDRT Annual Meeting, MDRT members will unite to help end world hunger. The Million Meal Challenge is MDRT’s largest-ever volunteer event to package 1 million meals for children and families in impoverished communities around the globe. Volunteers can sign up for one or more two-hour shifts to package rice-based meals that will be sent to people suffering from malnutrition.

If you are not attending the MDRT Annual Meeting, you can still accept the Million Meal Challenge — donate USD 200 online to provide 800 life-saving meals for people in need.

1 person + 2 hours = 400 meals

Volunteering for the Million Meal Challenge is a fun way to meet other MDRT members while giving back by helping children and families suffering from severe malnutrition.

Volunteers will work in groups of 10 to measure, seal and package the meals. In just two hours, one person can package 400 meals. The meals packaged during the Million Meal Challenge will be sent to people in need in Haiti, India, Jamaica, Nicaragua, the Philippines and Tanzania.

Sign up on site in the food packaging room in West Hall B2.

Frequently asked questions about the Million Meal Challenge.

Life-saving meals

Each meal, which is packaged in a plastic pouch, contains the following ingredients:

  • rice
  • soy protein
  • dehydrated vegetables
  • vitamins and minerals
  • vegetarian chicken flavoring

The ingredients have been developed by leading food manufacturers, and are proven to provide essential nutrients that can be easily digested by people with severe malnutrition. One single bag of food will provide a nutritious meal for six people.

Food distribution partners

MDRT is partnering with Kids Against Hunger (KAH) and Kids Around the World (KIDS) to facilitate the volunteer packaging event and shipment of the food. KAH is a nonprofit organization based in Minnesota that is dedicated to feeding children and families suffering from severe malnutrition worldwide. KAH packages rice-based meals at food packaging satellites throughout the United States. Since 1999, KAH has sent more than 150 million meals to people in 60 countries worldwide. KIDS is a nonprofit organization based in Rockford, Illinois, and is an official KAH packaging and distribution satellite.
